The Estate

Experience The Arley Estate

Arley Estate stretches from Upper Arley along the River Severn towards Bewdley to the south and Bridgnorth to the north, covering over 1,600 acres of woodland and countryside, including its beautiful walled garden and Arley Arboretum.

With stunning spring flowers, autumn colours, dairy cattle, sheep, wildlife, River Severn views, an ancient church, a village pub, houses, and cottages, Arley is one of Worcestershire’s hidden treasures, ideal for corporate events, private parties, and luxury weddings.

Arley Village is a popular destination for day-trippers, fishermen, and countryside enthusiasts, accessible by car and the Severn Valley Railway’s Steam Train.

The Origins Of The Estate

Since Roman times, people have settled at Arley. Major changes occurred in the 19th century when Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl Mountnorris, designed and planted the arboretum. The Woodward family further developed it, and in 1959, industrialist Roger Turner bought the estate, dismantled Arley Castle, and built Arley House along with other village properties and the Sports and Social Club.

The Roger & Douglas Turner Charitable Trust

Roger and his father Douglas established charitable trusts during their lifetimes. Upon Roger’s death in 1999, he left his personal assets, including the entire Arley Estate, to his trust. These trusts merged to form The Roger & Douglas Turner Charitable Trust (charity number 1154467), supporting charities in Birmingham, the Black Country, Worcestershire, and Herefordshire.

Profits from weddings and events by Arley House & Gardens Limited are fully distributed to the Trust for its charitable work.

Important Update

As we continue our commitment to sustainability and improving our guest experience, we’re excited to share that the entire Arley Estate — including the Tearoom and Events Venue — will be going cashless from January 2026. This change helps us reduce our environmental impact, streamline operations, and support a more efficient, secure, and modern way of working across the estate. We’ll continue to accept all major debit and credit cards, as well as contactless and mobile payments. Our team is, of course, here to support anyone who may need a little extra help adjusting to the new system. Thank you for joining us on this positive step towards a greener future for Arley Estate.
